Why Visit Jal Mahal?
Built around 1750 by Maharaja Madho Singh I as a lodge for royal duck-hunting parties, Jal Mahal ('Water Palace') sits in the middle of Man Sagar Lake - five storeys tall, with four submerged beneath the water. The interior is closed to the public, but the lakeside promenade is free to visit and offers some of the best sunset views in Jaipur.

Tips for Visitors
- ✓ Come right before sunset, not after - the palace goes gold for about 20 minutes and then it's over
- ✓ The promenade section facing the palace gets crowded; walk further along the lake for the same view with more room
- ✓ It's a view stop, not a meal stop - the real food is back toward Amer Road
- ✓ Skip the boat-ride touts near the parking lot - you can't actually reach the palace by boat anyway
