About Hawa Mahal
Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh and designed by Lal Chand Ustad, Hawa Mahal has 953 small windows (jharokhas) across five storeys. It was designed so the royal women could observe street festivities without being seen - the honeycomb façade is one of the most photographed sights in Jaipur. Unlike most monuments, it has no direct entrance from the front; visitors enter via the City Palace complex.
